  1. schizophrenia involves multiple personalities: a common myth is that people with schizophrenia have “split” personalities. in reality, schizophrenia is characterized by disruptions in thought processes and perceptions, not multiple identities. 


  1. people with schizophrenia are violent or scary: most individuals with schizophrenia are not violent/scary and are more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. 


  1. schizophrenia results from bad parenting: schizophrenia is a complex disorder with genetic and environmental factors; it’s not caused by parenting styles. 


  1. individuals with schizophrenia can’t lead fulfilling lives: with proper treatment and support, many people with schizophrenia lead fulfilling lives, maintaining jobs, relationships, and hobbies!
